Hack Reactor - Week 3 Day 6

Another close of a week in the books. We are now a quarter through the program. Time has passed by so fast. This program is so full of information and excitement that I can’t really believe all that I have learned and in just how little time.

Today we finished the second day of the Backbone and Coffee Script sprint. Backbone being new, plus Cofee Script being new, made this challenging and interesting. It also made it harder to detect exactly where errors were. Could they be the syntax of Coffee Script, or the Backbone methods?

Hack Reactor - Week 3 Day 4 & 5

Happy New Year!

Day 4 was New Year’s day and we had the day off.

But today, we were back at it today full bore.

Highlights of the day:

Presentation of Affordable Housing

Today I gave my lightning talk on Affordable Housing. Here is my deck if you want to check it out:

Hack Reactor - Week 3 Day 3

Highlights of the day:

Backbone

Wow we did a lot more in backbone today. Due to New Year’s day being a day off, our 2 day sprint on Backbone was reduced to just one day. My new pair, Preston Parry, and I spent 2 hours just whiteboarding through the issue. This proved most fruitful as we both went from having little to no understanding of Backbone, to each having a very clear model in our heads (and on the board).

Hack Reactor - Week 3 Day 2

Highlights of the day:

Backbone

Backbone is a javascript framework that separates concerns into Models, Collections, and Views. We are just scratching the surface of this as we will hit a full sprint on this tomorrow. My pair, David Ernst, and I were able to start to work on adapting our current sprint project into a backbone applications.

Hack Reactor - Week 3 Day 1

##Back at it

First day back after a mini-break (1 week). That off week felt short and long all at the same time.

It was long because Hack Reactor got me accustomed to learning so much in a short period. Time slowed down.

It was short because I felt like I had some goals and things I wanted to finish, but I didn’t. Family and friends and you know, that thing called life got in the way.

Overall, I am glad there was a break. It is important to see your support network whenever you can. Keep it balanced.
